Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is Cryotherapy?

Whole Body Cryotherapy involves the application of Nitrogen gas at subzero temperatures to the outer surfaces of the body for a duration of up to 3 minutes. This innovative treatment exposes the body to very cold temperatures stimulating multiple health, fitness, weight-loss, healing, and beauty benefits.

How cold is cold?

The average skin temperature drops to 10 °C (50 °F), while the coldest skin temperature can be 0 °C (32 °F). The core body temperature remains unchanged throughout the process, however, it may drop slightly afterwards.

How long is the treatment?

Only takes 1.5 - 3 minutes of exposure to freezing nitrogen gas.

How does it work?

Once you enter the Cryosauna, your skin will cool from high 80°F to low 40°F in 30 – 40 seconds. That is when toxins are flushed from muscle and skin surface tissue and red blood cells are enriched with oxygen, nutrients and enzymes. This causes more blood to be pumped to internal organs. Upon exit from the sauna, the enriched blood is released back to the skin surface tissues, muscle tissues and joint spaces that have been flushed of toxins. This also releases endorphins providing pain relief and relaxation.

What are the benefits?

Cooling the body to sub-zero temperatures sends the body into “survival mode”, causing blood supply to flow to the most vital organs and supply these areas with maximum oxygen & bodily nutrients. Cryotherapy effectively reduces swelling, bruising and inflammation and also accelerates the body’s natural healing & immune processes. Clients have also noticed a boost in energy and a more sound night’s sleep.

What do I wear?

Clothing worn during the treatment is minimal. All clients are protected with DRY socks, gloves, and slippers. All jewelry removed.

  • Women: clothing is optional; cotton underwear if preferred.
  • Men: genitals have to be covered with cotton underwear.

Who should get the treatment?

Most clients are not world-class athletes, but everyday people who exercise and want to feel better and recover faster. Elite athletes and celebrities who use Cryosauna include Floyd Mayweather, Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Demi Moore, Mandy Moore, Kate Moss, Jessica Alba, Jennifer Aniston, Tony Robbins, Joe Rogan, C.J. Wilson of Texas Rangers, Luke Walton of Los Angeles Lakers, the Dallas Mavericks and the New York Knicks, with a number of them saying that they feel better and stronger after treatment.

How often?

Although you will witness benefits after just 1 session of cryotherapy, to see maximum benefits it is recommended to maintain a regimen of 3 treatments in the first week. Then establish a routine, based on need, of 1 to 2 sessions per week.

What did people do before cryosauna?

The most long-standing and common form of “cryotherapy” is the application of ice or cold packs to injuries to cause blood vessels to constrict, which reduces blood flow and alleviates pain, swelling and inflammation. When someone bangs their head, knee, what is the first thing they do? They get an icepack and apply this to the area affected.

Is it safe?

The hazards that accompany cryotherapy are very minimal — protective gloves, socks and slippers are worn (along with undergarments) to protect against frostbite. During a session, a client’s head is completely exposed to allow for constant communication with the technician; a session can be terminated anytime by simply opening the door.

What are the after affects?

While your skin cools off, your core body temperature remains mostly the same during the treatment, and only slightly drops afterwards, if at all. This short-term cold therapy stimulates the release of endorphins, which in turn trigger analgesia (immediate pain relief).

When did it start and what heath benefits are there?

While your skin cools off, your core body temperature remains mostly the same during the treatment, and only slightly drops afterwards, if at all. This short-term cold therapy stimulates the release of endorphins, which in turn trigger analgesia (immediate pain relief).

Can you workout before or after treatment?

Yes. There are no pre or post treatment workout instructions.

What if I am claustrophobic?

The door is never locked and you may step out at any moment. The chamber is open at the top and your head is raised above the level of the upper rim of the chamber. Additionally, you can see our provider at all times and we try to keep you engaged in conversation for your three-minute treatment. This aids in distracting the client, so that the process time seems to go quicker.
